The rapper Rick Ross has a little less to worry about in his domestic violence case, as prosecutors have dropped the felony charge filed against him.
According to reports, the felony battery/strangulation charge was one of two in the case filed against Rick Ross in Miami, Florida, a month ago. The other charge was a misdemeanor. Prosecutors dropped the top charge because they had insufficient evidence.
“I’m thrilled, [a] felony charge is very serious,” said Rick Ross’ attorney to local network WSVN. Prosecutors announced the dropped charge during the rapper’s second arraignment hearing on Friday morning (October 30). The first hearing had to be reset, as prosecutors told the court they didn’t have enough time to file the charges.
What Allegedly Went Down Between Rick Ross & Jazzma Kendrick
The alleged incident took place inside the “Port of Miami” rapper’s house on Star Island on August 28. His ex-girlfriend claimed that he woke up, enraged over her being “tagged in a photo on Instagram,” and slapped her in the face.
She then stated to police officers that Rick Ross, aka William Leonard Roberts II, later accused her of cheating and hit her multiple times, including grabbing her ponytail and throwing her into a wall. She also stated that Ross “also choked the victim to the point she could not breathe by grabbing the collar of the hoodie she was wearing and twisting it,” according to the police report.
“Not only were our investigators able to obtain a victim statement, but they also collected photographs of the injuries, surveillance video of the alleged incident, and they were able to establish probable cause for this arrest,” Miami Beach Police spokesman Christopher Bess said at the time of the arrest. “It paints a picture of a very violent attack.”
Rick Ross pleaded not guilty to both charges after he was arrested and turned himself in on October 1. He spent only a few hours in jail before he was quickly bailed out. “I’m totally innocent of these fabricated allegations made against me,” Ross said at the time, maintaining his innocence.
