Yesterday, Trapstar Games’ Hood Warfare 2 had social media talking, and that continues to be the case as people continue to call out its glorification of Chicago’s gang violence.
For those who don’t know what the hell Hood Warfare 2 is, it’s a $5 Call of Duty clone that features the Bloods and Crips (we wish we were lying) battling out on Chicago’s streets. It is currently enjoying viral success after gameplay clips landed on social media.
The game is currently doing well on Steam and has a “mostly positive” rating based on 1,974 reviews.
Per the game’s Steam page, the description reads:
Rival gangs fight for control of Chicago. Pick a side, customize your weapons, and fight other players across a variety of action-packed game modes. Spin the block and take over the streets in this chaotic multiplayer FPS.
Hood Warfare 2 brings back the chaotic FPS gameplay and humor of the original, now built in Unreal Engine 5 with updated visuals, new weapon animations, and a new set of maps. Fight through downtown, the suburbs, The Trenches, and Chicago Mall. Hold down the streets or take the fight indoors, with different routes and positions to learn on each map.
Duke Dennis & Others Sound Off on Hood Warfare 2
The game has sparked plenty of chatter on social media, with some believing Hood Warfare 2 is some sort of CIA psyop to keep the Black community down.
The game was also discussed on a recent episode of the Joe Budden Podcast with co-host and gamer Ice, who felt a white person made it and that “it’s some secret hidden marketing” behind it.
AMP member Duke Dennis also shared his thoughts on the game, calling it out for its very stereotypical aspects.
“This game is so fcking cliche & predictable. Whoever made this game just couldn’t be black. If they was black, they either lack social awareness or they just don’t give a fck,” Dennis said during a stream.
RDC World felt the wrath of their chat and social media while streaming Hood Warfare 2.
Another thread is people trying to justify Hood Warfare 2’s existence by comparing it to games like Grand Theft Auto, 50 Cent: Bulletproof, and Saints Row.
But honestly, that is a huge stretch.
It’s going to be interesting as the conversation around Hood Warfare 2 continues, as people continue to push back on its blatant stereotypes and racism.
