Apple’s foray into gaming continues. Reportedly, the tech giant is dropping its own iPhone game controller.
Spotted on MacRumors, Joe Rossignol reports that references to two unreleased Apple game controllers were discovered in macOS 26.7 beta code, with Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman going into even more detail on the discovery.
According to Gurman’s reporting, the controller has been in development for a year for the iPhone and will feature Beats branding.
Apple’s decision to put Beats branding on the controllers allows the company to reach other market demographics. This also continues the push Steve Jobs built to release its own lifestyle accessories, like phone cases and charging cables, allowing Apple to offer customers options they would otherwise have to rely on third-party companies for.
Per HypeBeast:
iPhone game controllers released under this banner allow for more aggressive pricing. Manufacturers avoid the high-end finishes and premium materials found on mainline Apple products to lower costs. Lower price points help the company target a broader audience of mobile gamers.
Apple has slowly been turning its devices that were once not considered go-to devices for gaming, but that has slowly changed thanks to the company’s new powerful chipsets, turning them into fully capable gaming machines, whether it’s their MacBooks or iPhones, especially the recently announced iPhone Duo.
We are intrigued to see what these mobile controllers will look like.
