Hit-Boy has produced some of Hip-Hop’s biggest records, but his work on Watch The Throne remains in a league of its own.
The iconic 2011 album, a collaboration between Kanye West and JAŸ-Z, featured “N*ggas In Paris,” one of the biggest records in Hip-Hop history, with Hit-Boy behind the prodction.
In July, Kanye West shared his thought on his latest project, Bully, during the Urban One Summit, claiming the project meant more to him than Watch The Throne.
“I just wanted to thank y’all so much for getting behind us on this journey. These number ones mean even more than the Graduations and the Watch the Thrones and all the number ones before.”
Shortly after, Colby Colb, Senior Vice President of Programming at Radio One, shared his perspective on Ye’s comments.
“I find it quite interesting considering all the tremendous success he’s had in his career. He also had a period of darkness so it kinda makes sense. Anytime you have sustained success and then it goes away and then it’s like ‘Oh, I did it again,’ and now you’re number one again, that’s pretty cool.”
During Hip-Hop Wired’s exclusive sit-down with Hit-Boy, we asked what Watch The Throne means to him, especially in light of Ye’s recent comments.
“That sh*t meant everything, it’s just such a high level of production wise and rap wise. It’s hard to top some sh*t like that. I know n*ggas be breaking streaming records with every song they drop but I still don’t think too much has dropped that could f*ck with Watch The Throne.”
