Gail Bean Talks “The Drop,” Hollywood, and 90s Hip-Hop on The Morning Hustle
Gail Bean pulled up to The Morning Hustle with big energy and even bigger news. The actress, known for playing Wanda on FX’s Snowfall, is now the number one lead in the new spin-off, The Drop: A Snowfall Saga. In the series, we follow Wanda’s journey as she moves from battling addiction to chasing a new life in the music industry. It’s a role that carries weight, and Bean is stepping into it with full ownership.
Getting into character meant going deep on the culture. Bean broke down how the 90s hip-hop world connected to the streets she portrays on screen. “90s was my favorite era, but I was not aware of how much the rap game mirrors the dope game,” she shared. She also laughed about working with younger cast members like Asante Blackk, who had never even used a cassette tape.
Bean kept it real about the grind of Hollywood. She opened up about being passed over for roles like Storm and a Snoop Dogg project. “I had to sit in my feelings for a moment because it was the first time somebody told me I was too old,” she admitted. Still, she draws strength from icons like Taraji P. Henson, Viola Davis, and Angela Bassett, who prove Black women can thrive at every stage.
On the personal side, Bean spoke on dating her talent manager partner and setting professional boundaries. She also touched on marriage and her plan to drop her last name.
All the way in Hollywood, she has never forgetten DeKalb County roots. The vibe stayed light with playful high school rivalry talk—Stephenson High versus Stone Mountain High—that had the whole studio cracking up.
